I'm looking for an (ideally free) voice recognition app for Android which would allow me to dictate a short note for it to put into a text file.

My thinking is that I would like to use my phone for storing notes of things I remember while driving. I tried to use my old Nokia's sound recorder but the lack of a reasonable file saving system (it would just save files called sound0001, sound0002, etc), made it clunky to use.

what phone/OS version do you have?
voice input is included in android 2.2+. click the microphone icon on the keyboard, in your note-taking app of choice.

I don't have one yet, I'm thinking about a new phone at the moment.

I tried the one out on my wife's Android HTC phone, but it only allows one word at a time, so the idea of dictating a note goes right out of the window.

Voice recognition stuff has always been rubbish for me.

I think it my accent.

I always get "I dont understand that. Would you like me to show you a picture of a sheep?"

:(

OP, you should ask a mod to consolidate these threads.

like I said in your other thread, android 4.1 has offline continuous dictation built in. (you have to do a one-time download of the language pack).
currently gsm or cdma galaxy nexus is the only phone with stock 4.1
