Upon activating required software, the AudioNav has the capability of navigating throughout the United States. Mapping software is available on nine CD-ROM discs, each corresponding to a different US region. The AudioNav comes complete with all nine CDs, which can be individually activated by the user for a fee. A toll-free number for activation is located on the discs, and Pronounced Technologies also plans to offer on-line activation.

Anybody have an idea how much will the 'activation' cost us?

Ok. Here's a short review.

Pros: 1. Good voice recognition accuracy.
2. Convenient Voice Commands for driving directions AND playing music (yes, say "Navigator Play" and it plays your music CD!)
3. You don't have to pay for the service. I activated my first CD (for CA and NV) for free. I don't know about the other 8 CD's cuz I
haven't tried them. My guess is that they are all free since they have the same serial number.
4. Can do a re-route to destination when you get lost.
5. Has many built-in ATM, Restaurant, Airport, and other destinations.

Cons: 1. It takes a while to calculate route. All navigation systems I've tried so far are faster than this one. (but hey, this thing is $40)

So for $40, it's a steal. It comes with the Navigator/CD Player, 9 CD's to cover the entire US, a headphone, an AC adaptor, a Car Cigarette Lighter Adapter w/ Speaker, a microphone, and a CD-wallet, all packed in a convenient vinyl carrying case.

Does this "speak" through your cars speakers, or does it have a speaker on it?

Pronounced Technologies website says that AUDIONAV is GPS based. Someone here has said it is not GPS based. Can you tell me how you found out? Also, is consumerdepot site trustworthy. They have no product description. Which model of Pronounced technologies is this particular system? Also, do you get the activation CDs free along with this or do you have to buy them separately? Lot of questions. Would really appreciate if someone can help.

I read about the CDs. First CD activation is free. The others have some fee...I don't know how much.
I am confused about the GPS thing. If it does not have GPS, how does it tell you that its time to turn...or does it just remember the Map and says 'turn right at so and so street'. Its like you don't have to read the map. If it is that then rerouting is not of much help, because it would require you to find he address of the place where you have gotten lost, which might not be very easy at times.
