I've got a promotional DVD that the company I work for made a long time ago, and the boss just told me that he wants me to take some clips out of it, and I realized I have no idea how to convert video from VOB to some other format.

So does anyone know of a free program that will convert from VOB to another format and make sure that the quality is as good?

YAGGHQ

(yet another great general hardware question)

I mean, c'mon, is it rocket science for even a newb to get it that a question about software doesnt go in GH?

Just rename .vob to .mpg as it's a regular mpeg2 encoded file.

its not that easy.

rip the dvd to streams, m2v and ac3 (or dts, wav and so on)
convert the audio to whatever format u want to use in your clips (mp2, mp3, wma)
open m2v in virtualdub mod, add the converted audio stream to it
save as avi in whatever codec u want (divx, xvid, bla bla bla)
