i have a couple of dvds from different manufactures of equipment. what i want to do is rip the dvds and then put all of the dvds onto 1 dvd with fades in between them, looping the dvd. i can rip with dvd shrink but what can i use to make the vob files into a avi or some file format i can take into premiere and edit?

thanks

Usually the sound in a VOB is AC3, you may need to extract and convert it.

Headac3he (or Headac3e, forget how it's spelled). Btw, doesn't DVDShrink just run DVDDecryptor to extract vobs?

use virtualdubmod ... it can open the VOB and it should be able to read the AC3 audio stream. Use divx (or xvid) video compression and mp3 audio compression.

The app won't be able to "Append segment" while it's still a VOB so use that feature after the AVIs are created.

If he wants to merge multiple DVDs into one big DVD it would be pretty stupid to use DivX compression.

<bush> care to explainify? </bush>

Iirc as long as framerate and audio bitrate are consistent you can append AVIs no problem using most editors, and some compression is necessary, as 2 short movies might fit on one (dual-layer) DVD, but there's no way 3 will.

Most DVD players don't do DivX so you would want to keep it in MPEG2 to aviod recompressing it multiple times and losing quality.
