Hello,

So, finally set received all my gear and built up my new system based on the vnf3-250. All is well except for one thing: when the system accesses my Asus DVD-ROM drive, the system fully black screens and reboots. For example, if I "explore" the DVD-ROM drive, the drive will spin up, then the mouse stops responding and *poof* reboot. :-(

I have tired setting up the DVD-ROM on ide0 and ide1, both as master and slave -- same result.

Any ideas of what to try?

This is my setup:

WinXP pro SP1 (fresh install, of course)
a64 3200+ with swiftech 6400v heatsink
Sapphiore Radeon Pro 9800 Ultimate
WD 120Gb 7200 rpm SATA
ASUS DVD-E616p1 DVD drive
1 Gb OCZ 3700EB
Enermax 470 PS
USB mouse

THanks,
DJM

Do you have another optical drive you could try in place of the Asus, to see which part is potentially at fault (mobo or DVD)?

Yep. You might also try a different cable. Sometimes cables get busted/pinched/stepped on and you don't know it. It may look OK on the outside, but be busted internally.

Okay, so I popped in my Asus 50x cd-rom drive and, no problems with that. Put the DVD rom back in and it no longer crashes the system, but does error on copying some files...looks like RMA time...
