i want to use tightvnc on my home pc so i can connect via Internet Explorer at a pc at school and work. the problem is i have a dsl connection with a dynamic ip addy so i dont always know what the ip for home pc to use. are there any other programs that allow remote access to pc via a browser that doesnt require one to know the exact ip address?

thanks

I doubt the software itself would be able to do that... how is it going to know what your IP address is? You'd have to setup a static IP address somehow.. something like dyndns.org

well i've also used pcanywhere and u can set up a host using a name instead of an ip address. the client then types in the name of the host and can connect. the problem with pcanywhere is that both client and host must have it installed...and i wanna be able to connect to my pc from a school pc which i cant install it in

The host name resolves to an IP address, so if you already have a host name which works, use that with tightvnc. There is nothing magic about what pcA is doing, it just resolves tha thost name and connects to the IP associated. What OS, btw, if it's XP did you try remote desktop?

how would i have the host name resolve the ip address? install pcanywhere on a different port to have it resolve the IP address and then connect to tightvnc via browser by typing in the hostname and the tightvnc port?
i have XP but i haven't tried its remote desktop...but my school computer runs Win2k/Win98...would i still be able to connect via browser w/ those OSes? and how is the security and options?

like jfall said, use dyndns.org. You'll be able to assign a static address to your ip (a little proggie on your comp will make sure the static address always points to your PC). Then in VNC you just have to type your static address (like vexingv.dyndns.org).
