VNC, TightVNC, Remote Administrator, Remote Desktop, or something else...which do you prefer?

Remote Desktop does very good replication of the remote PC(visually). VNC seems pretty slow but it works nice.

What do you use/like?

Terminal Server if you are on Windows 2000 Server or Windows XP - it's included or if not, VNC - it's free.

Both work great and don't cost extra. :)

EDIT: Terminal Server is called Remote Desktop in Windows XP

I got VNC running on a p150mhz laptop. It's sooo slow!

We have Citrix running at work and that's pretty nice and fast. :)

I think there is a "lite" version of VNC that is made to run on older machines. You may want to try that.

Remote Desktop is awesome for WindowsXP machines... I just wish they would allow for more than one "interactive" user

I just looked into that. I had trouble finding a lite vnc. I did find a tightvnc, which is the same speed or possibly a bit slower...

I prefer Remote Admin when money is not such a primary issue.
For controlling a WinXP desktop, Remote Desktop is tough to beat (since it is included)...altho the control is not as fine as I'd like it to be.
VNC is great in open environments where money is a BIG deal. But if there are any concerns about security, then it's important to keep in mind that vanilla VNC is WIDE open!

VNC's performance over slower links also leaves a lot to be desired, especially compared to RA and RD.

Citrix = BIG $$$, but some of its management and deployment functions cannot be found in any other product.
The W2K iteration of Terminal Services really took a big bite out of Citrix's exclusive feature set tho, particularly with the addition of remote printing.

I use Win VNC, but want to try TightVNC as I've been told it's faster/better. Just haven't had the time.

True. It's very expensive since you not only need a Citrix license, but a Terminal Services CAL from Microsoft as well for every computer that connects.... The main reasons I prefer it is because: 1.-I don't have to pay for it....2.-It's very fast.....3.-It provides 128 bit encryption......4.-High resolutions.....5.-Sound :D

I really can't complain about Remote Desktop.....It does evrytihing I need it to do and the price is right. I have 2 headless machines on my network that I use RD exclusively for accessing........I couldn't function without it anymore.

Yea, that's what I meant... though strange it didn't help. A while back I had the same problem and it was faster for me... not blazing fast, but still better.

No argument there pal...

Citrix v. VNC is kinda like Porsche v. Yugo

BTW: Sound and high-res are available in the 5.1 RDP client included with WinXP, assuming a WinXP target and depending upon available bandwidth, of course.

As does Terminal Services, subject to the following caveat:
When you install the 128-bit High Encryption pack and use high encryption on a Windows 2000 Terminal Services computer, all of the information that is passed from the client to the server in a Terminal Services session is not encrypted.
