I have never had this many issues with VNC before. I just got a dual xeon server and am trying to set it up as a remote desktop server to access from outside. I tried linux mint 17.2 Cinamon, I tried debian, both with multiple online found versions of vnc/start-up scripts that i found online. I have setup VNC servers on several raspberry pi's before and had no issues ssh tunneling to them even via a 3g connection from across the country. But this is just weird... Also tried xrdp and it also fails... The server is sitting 1 switch away from me and i am not even trying ssh tunnelinginto it, just direct VNC and it shows black screens or grey screen with no desktop or just plain old fails... tried multiple vnc servers like realvnc and tightvnc. I did enable remote desktop in mint and that also fails...
Can anyone suggest a good, solid nix release that is as easy and as simple as raspbian and it "just works" as far as vnc is concerned.
The goal for this machine is to be a remote desktop server that i can connect to from the outside of my home network using an SSH tunnel. I have raspberry pies set-up and working, but wanted moar powa. It's a dual six-core xeon system with 48GB of ram, so need a nix that can take advantage of that and actually work with VNC via SSH tunnel.
