VNC access to computer with active VPN connection

I am trying to come up with a way to VNC in to my server that stays connected to a VPN. I use a dynamic DNS service that is updated from my router and neither that hostname, nor the VPN ip is letting me in. I am assuming the first because the IP is not correct, the second because there is no port forwarding on the VPN exit server. So that begs the question:

1) How can I login to my VNC server if it is on an active VPN connection?

I do have a second ethernet port on this computer. But if I go live with that interface, I have to somehow route all non-VNC traffic through only the other interface, else everything else can use that connection, making the VPN rather pointless.

I am on OSX 10.8.2.

Hopefully there is a simple solution to this and I am overanalyzing!

Thanks in advance guys!
