Does anyone know if the vmware people are going to bring Direct X support to vmware? I would love to be able to windows under linux, and still be able to play games.
 
You will never be able to play games with VMWare. VMware was never developed to play games in. It is a training tool/developers tool. If you want to play games in Windows, you should go out and buy another computer. (Don't mean to be rude!)
 
What applications outside of games have problems in VMWare? More specificially, I would like to use it for PCAnywhere, CD-Writing and Quicktime. Do any of these have issues running under VMWare?

 
why not write cd's under linux natively? the rest should be easy under vmware as thats how I did turbotax this year.
 
I much prefer EZ-CD Creator to any of the Linux GUI frontends for cdrecord. If I were to purchase VMWare, I might as well use it if I can...
 
The apps you mentioned should really have no problem. But, if you are wanting to play Quake III or Unreal Tournament, you will never be able to get OpenGL or even Glide to work properly. VMWare was never ment to be used to play games with.
 
Just install VMWare on your Win2K machine, start VMware and create a profile for the OS you want to install. Insert the CD (if your CD is bootable) and go through the installation of Linux. If you are wanting to install RedHat 7.0, use the second CD as it is the easiest to install Linux.
