VMware, VirtualBox, DOSBox or PCem?

Eh? What exactly are you trying to do here?

You can use VirtualBox to start a virtual machine then you can install a Windows OS on it...

The free VMWare Player has its limits, at that point VBox is better. If you pay for VMWare Pro then that's the choice. I use VBox and VMWare and VMWare Pro performs better in many ways and is super user friendly- and the ESXi is a cool concept (run a VM with the server and connect to it via remote from another computer).

However I personally use a hypervisor type VM (Xen) so I can directly access hardware.

Ummm, you know ESXi is a hypervisor, right?

ESXi and VMWare Player are both available as free versions.
