VMware player - keyboard not working (not keystrokes).

Not sure if anyone can help, I must be doing something wrong, although I don't know how. I loaded VMware player on my Dell Inspiron Quad Core desktop PC just to play around with Linux, and maybe Chrome in the future. After I install it, and the guest operating system (Unbuntu), when I click in the window to type my password nothing happens. The keystrokes to not appear to be passed over. I hooked up a separate USB keyboard and no change.

I figured must be something set up with that system, so I decided to install VMware player on a Dell laptop that I have (very current core i7 system). And the same thing happened, no keystrokes.

At this point I am certain I am doing something wrong. Even a simple Google search for vmware player keystrokes pulls up NADA. What the hell could I be doing wrong?

I have the same problem (Ubuntu guest) and haven't found the solution either. If you boot without GUI, the keyboard would work. I guest it has something to do with Vmware Tools + Ubuntu GUI. Debian guest does not suffer from this problem.
