So i have a machine that has version 4 and also want to upgrade to OSX 10.9.

To do this, would I have to upgrade Fusion to version 6 first before the OS upgrade?
 
I doubt that ordering matters but you could first uninstall Fusion 4.

And then install the latest version when Mavericks is running. App settings should be preserved.
