Vmware Fusion (Mac) preorer on now (39.99 isntead of ERP of $79.99)

Like I posted, it works like a dream on a mac mini 1.66ghz core duo, 2GB ram etc, and that was beta 3, which was nearly flawless. Wile the 3d opengl doesn't yet work on the intel 950GMA, it still works VERY well....MUCH better than the latest release of parallels.
And it's UNITY alternative to Parallel's COHERENCE kicks ass too...

....enough so to watch streaming movies off of netflix and CBS' innertube


Oh, and the beta doesn't expire for a while

negative, parallels feels much faster than the beta4 of fusion i tired, atleast for windows xp, mouse feels unusally slow too, oh well its just a beta

I haven't run parallels in a while since I have little interest in paying $80, I know that I can use the trial, but that expires so that is a little annopying.

VMWare Fusion on the other hand is free (for now), pretty stable, and works well for both XP and Vista Bootcamped.

So those are my thoughts on the matter, I think I will get VMWare Fusion once I have money again, but I will probably hold off till the last minute.

I'm holding out for Parallel's next major release later this year. They said they have a big update coming, so I'm curious to see how it will compare to VMWare. VMWare has taken their sweet time getting to the market...who knows how often they'll update their software? Parallels is already on version 3.0 and has new features coming out all the time. They don't have every feature under the sun, but at least they've got a fast, stable product available. This delay from VMWare tells me they're not really that interested in making a product for the Mac platform...it's been over a year and a half since Intel Macs were introduced and they're just now releasing software. Hmm...

How is the bootcamp integration? That's one feature of Parallels I love. Not having to re-install Windows as a VM when I already have BootCamp installed is pretty cool. Not to mention it saves diskspace on my already crowded 100GB HD.

VMWare Fusion is now on Beta 4, so that is quite a few releases, also bear in mind that VMWare has been around for a while, so although they seem to be taking their time, they have just as many features as Parallels, and it is in my opinion, just as stable. Also, I have had good luck with my communications with them in regards to bug reports and the like.

It works great with Bootcamp, just as good if not better than Parallels. My copy of Vista runs great in a Bootcamp VM, but I have never tried it with parallels.

I am using VMWare fusion with a WinXP bootcamp install and it woks great. I have also tried Parallels and it works fine as well. I think the $80 for either would e steep. Also, I have as of yet seen either Fusion OR Parallels allow a Vista install with bootcamp to be used as the VM in OSX. I have not tried under Beta 4. So is this available by either yet?

i tried vmware last week and didn't like it as much as parallels, it didn't feel as complete

Granted, I only paid $39 for my Parallels

I run Vista Business, that has been installed via bootcamp. I gave it 512MB under VMWare Fusion Beta 4, and it actually runs reasonably well. Well enough to let me quickly check things and the like which is what I have it there for.

ok, i now have both installed with XP Pro on my Mac Mini.

Doing a one after another comparison, Parallels is not only noticeably faster, but it has much less bugs and just all around feels MUCH more natural to use.

VMWare feels buggy and unfinished. Returning to XP, the resolution seems to always be out of whack. Either a 640x480 tiny box, or its larger than my 20" screen can even support. Everytime it loads i have to go finding the corner of the app and dragging it and resizing it. Also, especially using Unity, programs are just slow and unresponsive, much like VirtualPC used to feel on the old G4's.

Parallels on the other hand is very very snappy, feels as good as native for all my purposes.

VMWare is being removed tonight.

I mostly just use Boot Camp and reboot if I need to go from one to the other.

keep in mind that my recommendations come from someone using a mac mini

while the intel gma950 graphics are pathetic at 3d, in using both parallels and fusion, fusion just dominated in performance in every category...

I need to try this on my iMac.. I bought parallels... and the upgrade right before fusion had announced their deal I tried early versions and it was a bit painful. I put it on for our staff that has a mac pro because of it's support for multiple cores, and that was damn nice.. but a rather unfair comparison since well.. mac pro quad cores vs dual core imac... yeah. heh.
