VMWare Fusion 2

Congratulations VMWare team! The latest builds are a major step up from the early Fusion 2 stuff. You've implemented almost every feature that's kept me on Parallels, despite owning only Fusion.

Shared folders/desktops, faster speed, and shared applications!

My only gripe right now is that I can't share Windows Applications to OS X. So I can't tell me Word files in OS X to open in the Windows copy of Word. I might be able to get around this by creating shortcuts in my Documents folder, but haven't tried yet.

I've said a lot of negative stuff about Fusion in the past, so I wanted to come in here and say that the VMWare guys have turned the Fusion ship right around and I'm not using it for virtual machines only.

When I booted up XP today, I even got a prompt from VMWare offering a 12-month subscription for McAfee VirusScan Plus, nice touch!

Mine allows me to associate OS X files with Windows. For instance, I have XLS files opening up in Office in Windows right now. And it even starts the VM if Windows isn't running.

Unless I'm missing some other function that you're looking for?

Yeah this feature has been around for awhile...

Parallels was my original favorite, but after version 3 I was so disheartened I gave VMware a shot...and have never looked back! Not quite as many bells-and-whistles, but it's rock solid and FAST!

Hmm, how do you guys do it? I know in Parallels it's pretty easy, but if I try to change file type associations in the get info dialog, i can only choose os x applications.

if you go to Settings... Then Sharing... There should be an option for both OS X and Windows program sharing. Just make sure that both are checked...

Then I could use the Get Info box to change the associations.
