VMware Fusion 2.0 - Officially Released

Didn't 1.0 do that as well? I can't remember, I've been using the betas of 2.0 for so long now.. 😀

Don't know if it did it on Hackintoshes before, but it does now! 😀

I tried using fusion before maybe it was beta but it errored when trying to access the vista install. It works now for sure???

Im running a damn 4850, i thought it would be supported with 10.5.5 but i was wrong 🙁 But I still have my install, corrupted but it just needs to be reinstalled and partitions are set up....

I would like to see it access vista 🙂 I guess I will try it

Ok didnt work for me, Gives me error VMware Fusion unrecoverable error: (vmx). Can you tell me how you got your to work? I have a vista 64 install before reinstalling leopard (following guide ofcourse).

I really want this feature as i need to use vista for a few things, outside of gaming.

Also could be because im running vesa mode. Because im running 4850, i may have to get a 8800gt back

Fusion 1.x was technically competent (as was to be expected since it was a porting of VMWare's existing VMWare Workstation software) but as a user experience it was lacking. It wasn't easy to use, and it didn't have the kind of features that would be better suited for laymen users.

Hmm.. so you're using a BootCamp'd Vista 64 install, or attempting to? Or is this a VM of Vista 64?

I don't use Vista 64, as I found it to be dog slow in a VM. Vista 32, however is much improved and I haven't tried 64 since the upgrade to 2.0. I'll try and give it a shot this weekend, but it'll depend on all that I have to juggle right now.

Im running a hack, with a HD partitioned into 1 with vista, and 2nd with osx. Multibooting via chain0.

I cannot go back to 32 🙁 cause i am using 4GB of ram

I gotcha. I don't use more than 2GB in VM because I'm not doing anything demanding, so I don't see a performance increase by using Vista 64.

are you running a hackintosh?

Actually faster than 1.0. The last time that I tried Vista was with 1.0 and it's a huge improvement over that for me. YMMV, though.

Unity mode seems to work more consistently as well, which is nice, because I hate having to run in Full Screen or a Window.

ok so i powered up my hack laptop (acer aspire) and installed vmware and my vista part/install boots right up. Interesting...

I dunno but it could be because on desktop im using some bios emulation. I gonna have to reinstall with my real vista dvd lol. I own a retail license but wanted 64bit and downloaded a bad disc, not retail that is. Guess I need to find a retail 64bit disk.

To bad my laptop doesnt have a C2D though 🙁

does emulating off of a dual boot partition work well? i remember trying this before on a 1.xx version and it was absolute poop.

works like crap on my laptop, dual core intel 1.7ghz (not c2d) 2gb memory. Vista runs pretty bad but it works lol. I shared 1 gig memory and 1 core... maybe i could give it some more juice/

I grabbed the demo off off vmware, but kept getting BSOD when trying to boot my existing Vista 64 installation, even in safe mode. Is it going to help if I import it as a vmdk file?

I don't mind reinstalling Vista from scratch, but should I go with Vista 32 or 64? I'm mostly interested in seeing if Steam/TF2 will run respectably. Even if it doesn't, running Vista in parellel will be of great benefit for work purposes 🙂

[*]I have 8 GB of DDR2, should I allocate a full 4GB for 64-bit Vista? Or 3GB or less for 32-bit? 😕

[*]My HDs are: Raptor 34GB, Seagate 500, Seagate 640GB. My Hackintosh is set up on the 640GB. I'm planning to run Vista off the Raptor 34GB, which is the drive it has always been on. Good idea/bad idea?

Would appreciate any other comments and pointers. Thanks!

edit importing it as a vmdk image allowed me to boot into windows, but I couldn't install vmware tools. gonna just do a scratch vista install...

edit2 I decided to just go with 32-bit Vista, then I can just allocate a maximum of 3GB RAM to it if I wanted to. Should be plenty for occasional windows use. After the reinstallation everything appears to be running smoothly. If VMWare Fusion runs Vista smoothly this means I can pull the Raptor completely from my system...

Vista works pretty crappy in ANY VM lol.

i installed xp on a bootcamp partition this weekend to try it out. unless i'm missing something, vmware 2.0 works best with a virtual image. bootcamp partition xp runs noticeably slower even when alloted a lot of ram.

I've noticed this. I've also noticed that Fusion and Parallels sometimes screws up my Bootcamp partition, so I've kinda kept from running it in a VM.

mm thanks for the heads up. i'll keep vmware from running off my bootcamp partition then. i'm playing witcher ee these days and i haven't had this much fun with a game in a long, long time.

Dumb question, but how do you use this to dual boot in a hackintosh? Does this acutally works in dual booting, or is it a virtual drive through osx?
