I"m just curious if anyone has done this before..what they thought about it and any tips. I'm looking to do it for my personal setup if it is going to turn out good on the other end. Thinkin i should stop services when i do it maybe.
 
if its not production, you dont need to, but to be safe, i would stop the services. I done it w/o problems but you should check everything, i mean you will still have your physical box, you can do a dry run and if you dont like it, delete the vm
 
Stop all of exchange, and don't forget to stop IIS as well as you don't want the smtp listener collecting mail that will never get delivered. You will lose all support from MS in this scenario unless you have a premier agreement in place.
 
if you use a VMCenter Boot CD you can do an offline conversion and then there is no question it will work.

Also MS wants your Exchange databases on Fixed disk VHD's (same with any databases)
 
Nice, I'll look into that. Right now i've only brought in a Win7 VM from Hyper-V and so far it has been working great.
