VMware causing LAN name resolution problems

I have some backup scripts that work off computer names on the LAN.

VMware creates multiple adapters that are used by virtualized OSes, whether VMware is running or not. However for some reason when I try to ping or access a computer via \\computername it is resolving as one of the VMware IPs (which don't have network connection) instead of the computer's actual IP address.

Anybody know how to fix this?
