I'll be using VMware Workstation software heavily at work next week to test some applications. Will there be any benefit to running the VMs from a software RAMdisk? Specifically, I'd like to know if it will speed up creating and restoring VM snapshots.
I know it seems like an easy answer, but a quick Google search yields mixed answers. Some say it'll be a massive speed boost, while others say if there is enough RAM, VMWare will cache the VM files to RAM anyway and negate the RAMdisk. Thoughts?
System:
HP Z800
Xeon E5645 (I think, it's 6-core Xeon for sure)
24GB RAM
300 GB Velociraptor + 1TB Samsung HDD
Quadro 5000
Windows 7 Enterprise
