I am moving a Diamond DVD hardware decoder from a PII computer to a KT7 Thunderbird computer. No big deal (I thought). The card fits in a PCI slot but also has a 26 pin ribbon cable going to the motherboard, to a connector labeled "VMI Header". The KT7 board does not have a 26 pin connector like this. Anyone know what this is? Also the decoder card has another connector on it that was not used. It is a 34 pin connector just like a floppy drive. Maybe it can be used instead of the 26 pin connector?????? I don't know what any of the connectors are for, because it was a OEM card (no paperwork). I installed the card without the ribbon, and as I suspected, it does not work. Anyone have any ideas???
 
i have a cheapie dvd decoder card also and it uses a vmi header. unfortunetely unless you have a video card witha vmi also you cant use the decoder card. i know my old tnt1 had one and i think my geforce has it too. honestly after using it for a while i ripped the decoder card out. it didnt do anything for me. anyways good luck and hopefully i answered your question. btw- my vmi used the 34 pin header.

From what I hear software decoders seem to be the way to go. I used to use WinDVD. I think it had the software decoder built into it (don't hold me to that).
