VM appliance movement resets Windows activation

I moved a Windows 7 Pro 64-bit VM from a Linux Mint 18 host environment to Windows 7 Pro 64-bit host environment and in the process the previously activated Windows Pro 64-bit VM lost its activation status. Mind you both host environments were on the exact same physical machine.

Surprisingly, this was not the case when I moved a Windows 10 Pro 64-bit VM between the two aforementioned environments.

Different host OS presumably means they were using different hyper visors, and the hardware uuid changed even though the underlying hardware didn't.

*shrug.*
