VM and continuum an idea?

I'm not an expert on this area but I why hasn't Microsoft made an uwp app that lets you acces an virtual machine running windows? It could be part of your office365 subscription, where Microsoft host a VM you can access through this uwp app. This way you could have win32 apps on your phone, and use it in continuum to run 'real' software anywhere.

That's kind of what Azure RemoteApp did. They discontinued it, though, in favor of helping Citrix develop a similar service, XenApp express. And for full VM environments, you can always RDP into an Azure VM.

More like Citrix is helping Microsoft out by expanding the azure cloud solution and rebrand it as "xenapp express" though it's just a matter of semantics and who you talk to. Their azure VDI solution has been DOA for awhile with little adoption rate from the major enterprising companies out there, so it'll be a good partnership that Microsoft desperately needs.

But is there any indication that these platforms will reach consumer space?

For me it would seem like major selling point in consumer space also. But then again most people seems to be happy with the limitations apps have.

I don't know anything about Azure, other than they try to connect to my home IP and website often and are blocked. What I do know is Team viewer has an App and you can run Team viewer on a VM and remote in. I have done this. Team viewer is also Linux compatible. They even make it for BlackBerry!

You would of course install the Team viewer service in your instance.

Pro tip. Two Factor your Team viewer account. I use Authy.

That's the thought process going in with this partnership, is to make it easily available for the consumer market. Citrix VDI is second to none and heavily optimized for end user experience (gui, performance, latency, etc) so Microsoft is going to leverage this into azure. I don't know the timeline as to when it'll show up in consumer's hand, but given that both companies already have their existing "cloud" solution, now is just a matter of integrating the technologies.

This is DOA for consumer. No one wants this or continuum. They want to use their apps on their iPhone or Android.

This is only useful for enterprise, they can write custom apps for Windows that can take advantage of continuum allowing for useful display on the phone itself. I think it will not fly at BYOD businesses though, no one wants to give up their iPhone/Android.
