For some weird reason VLC media player keeps crashing for me whenever i open a menu. Lets say i am playing a video, and i click on the audio menu to switch the mode from stereo to reverse stereo; or i click the video menu to enable "Video on top", it just crashes.

Is this happening for anyone else?

What version are you running? Are other media players working correctly while playing the same content?

Have you updated recently? I am running 2.0.8 with Bodhi (based on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS) and have no problems. What Operating System are you running Inf1nity?

Yes I found the last couple Windows versions to be somewhat unstable and inconsistent. I've also noticed that when playing FLAC files it tends to skip the first .5 to 1 second.

i'm running version 2.1.2 RinceWind. This used to happen in the previous versions(2.1.1 or 2.1.0) as well. I don't get it. It such a weird problem. And it doesn't always happen. Sometimes it happens. Sometimes it doesn't.

I have observed that it usually happens when i have been running a video for a long amount of time. If i open a menu early in the video, it opens up without problems. However, let it sit for some time and it will crash when i open the menu. Another thing is that it happens more while playing videos than mp3s. However the fact is i don't play mp3s a lot, most of my music collection is in videos, so that observation may not be totally accurate.

I can't submit a bug report because my computer doesn't have an internet connection. I think i'm gonna download the latest version. I have considered switching to Windows Media Player however half of my video collection is in flv format so that is a problem.

Any alternative players that can play variety of formats and has a easy to use interface? I am thinking of getting MPC-HC. I used it in the past, but have since returned to vlc.

My "other media player" is WMP. It plays the video fine, but then it doesn't have those things that VLC has(mentioned in my OP).

I running on Windows7 Ultimate 32 bit. And now that you mention it, i do remember this problem starting after the last few updates.

I am running 2.1.3 RinceWind with W7 64-bit, works flawlessly.

(Just checked for newer as someone here says he is running 2.1.4, but VLC says I have the latest build.)

Yes, I would uninstall yours, run CCleaner, get and install newest version not sure if a hotfix messed yours up, but something is corrupted.

The system in question has no internet connection??? How do you get updates?

I'm using VLC 2.1.3 64 bit on Win 7 Pro 64 and I've noticed video playback issues for the past couple versions. Pixelation, freezes and crashes on all formats, mainly MP4 and FLV, especially when FF or FR. Other players play the videos fine. Not sure what's going on.

VLC has been my favorite player for years.

Pls use Mem's link and get 2.1.4 and see if that puts things right. It will install and u can choose to keep yr settings, or, since U R having issues with .3, you might try to uninstall it and clean install the new build.

I used to use VLC many years ago, for many years.

Personally I have been using Daum Potplayer myself the last couple of years and highly recommend it myself, and using it on 8.1.

Pretty highly customizable, so it takes a bit of getting used to, but I like it better than VLC myself.

Without any plugins.

I will check it out, but if it don have a Santa hat on its icon at Xmas, I will remain monogamous.():)

Is it French? Some of the finest vintage art glass is Daum Nancy. French.

Update:
K, I got it, installed it and, no offense, I don like it. So I will now uninstall it. Don like the GUI, and, while below was not done from a formal capture using it,I jus used Windows, to me, neither the video quality nor the audio (I did not configure the audio) is as good as VLC's.

But, I needed to try it. I had a brief little fling.

For all my MP3 files I use Winamp which is alive and well and still fabulous.

I'll install the newer version for sure and hope it takes care of the problems. I always try to keep VLC up to date, especially since I started experiencing difficulties, hoping the updates would take care of the problems.

I use the PotPlayer as well. The interface is not as easy to use as VLC, but it plays files that VLC has problems with. I think the playback quality is pretty good. I have not really tried to customize the PotPlayer, just use it to play videos that VLC won't.

Wow. I am shocked. I have total loyalty to VLC cause it's never let me down. Can you pls share which files it would not play the PotPlayer does? Important to know this!

I like clean & practical, with well written normal toolbar with expandable elements at the top. The Pot player one had too much slick glut in the interface for my liking.

I have always used MPC-HC. It is a good player, about the same as VLC in many ways. Rock solid reliability, plays a lot of formats, user-friendly customization.

If you take the to customize it and mess around a bit can do a lot of things.

O! Always terrifies me when I hear about or come upon any system running Windows not fully patched, but in your case, if it's never online, I guess its OK.

U use a flash drive to update yr apps in this system?

PS: Just getting simple, free Speed Fan will allow you to monitor yr CPU temps.
