Have the above problem

according to this is a bug that still has not been fixed.

According to inet you should use mkvcleaver to extract the subtle and save it as an SSA file and then add it back into vlc. Didn't get it together yesterday in mkvcleaver. Is there a faster clean solution that would also work for mp4 files ?

The thing is, the most common source of 4k HDR video is UHD blu ray rips. And the thing about the subtitles on blu rays is that they are bit maps, not text, so it doesn't matter what "bugs" there are in subtitle formatting; they will always display the same because they are pictures. Only text-based subs can be affected, which would (by definition) come from an external source.

You can convert PGS to SRT.

it’s ok, you have your opinion, i have mine. Doesn’t change the fact that VLC has a software bug.
