I had heard a lot of good things about VLC from ppl on herer, but I d/led it and tried to play a movie I had, and the audio was horrid, it was very scratchy, continuely in the background. I don't have any problems like this playing it in WMP or WinDVD Home Theater. Anyone know why this is, I tried playing multiple vids, wiith the same result. I run this to my TV. Could this cause a problem?

No, your problem is you are using the default audio output under windows - go to audio settings and change audio output device to 'Wave Out', that will fix it.

Why they default to an audio device that doesn't work under windows in the pre-compiled windows client baffles me, but hey.

Where do I go under windows? I went to the audio tab under the sound and audio device control panel control panel option, but where do i set the output device. Under sound playback, all I have is NVIDIA(R) nForce(TM) Audio. I can't change it to anything else

bump...still having difficulty with audio skipping, but only on certain files. Not sure if there is a connection between them, is there codecs that need to be d/led for VLC?
