I noticed something the other day, I bought some Vlasic bread+butter pickles, (BOGO deal) but the chips are cut about 35% bigger than they used to be, then I figured out why, with bigger chips it makes room for more pickle juice as the bigger slices cannot pack together tightly, after finishing the jar I weighed the liquid, 16oz. That means I only got 8oz of pickles since the jar is sold by liquid quantity (24fl oz). Just another scheme to maximize profits at the consumers expense, I just thought fellow OT'ers ought to know before selecting this product, they tasted fine as usual but damm those scheming pickle bastards!
nobody likes pickles with sugar on them.,.....ewwwww

They are not the only food company that has reduced package size/qty instead of or addition to of raising prices. I don't think there has been any backlash.

I guess if you don't consider constant complaining and mentioning the "grocery store shrink ray" backlash that's true. At best it's grudging acceptance.

Yes, among with selling slightly smaller package sizes like a half-gallon of ice cream that's not 64oz, it's correctly labeled in tiny font ant the bottom of the box.

And they're also using so much air and reducing the milk fat % so much that some lines can no longer be legally called ice cream.

I remember when I was working in a supermarket in high school (back ~2005): products started shrinking then. OJ went from 64 oz to 59 oz containers, ice cream containers shrank, etc. Now I see it even more - thinner cereal boxes, an ounce or two removed from a bag of chips,...

In some ways, I wish they would just raise the price instead of doing this shrinking products crap.

I didn't know fluid ounces "weighed" the same as dry ounces.

Didn't we already go through this with the ice cream thread?

No, they are selling a product as a liquid, not as a specific weight. As I mentioned earlier they could put 15 slices in that bottle and it would be legal to sell it like that. Of course no one would be that dumb so they just increased the size of each chip which allows for more juice, out of a 24oz jar only 8oz were actually consumable pickles, the rest was waste. I can defiantly remember a time when labeling required the actual weight of the edible goods when a food item was sold suspended in a liquid, smart $$ says some giant food producers put wad's of $$ in the right pockets for the current system. I don't like taking pickle juice up the ass, I'm not done with this, not by a long shot!!..
