What was the ratio of pickle to liquid previous to this scam? Experiment fails without a control.

That is a valid point, but since the previous pickles are no longer sold I cannot do any measurements but it kind of speaks for itself when the size difference is that noticeable, the much bigger slices don't stack very well in the jar leaving ample space for extra juice and more profit for the pickle plunderers.

This.

the scam is that you eat bread and butter pickles.

Geez-louise, again, this is NOT about personal pickle preference, if you bought dill pickle's (slices), packaged in the same manner you would also get robbed!

That does look like a good recipe, I'm perfectly happy with store-bought ones though, I just hate being fleeced..

A lot of places here in the Northeast are big on custom pickles (house-made or otherwise); nothing can touch the ones in this recipe. Only takes 5 minutes to make, then just let it sit in the fridge for a day to "pickle". Super easy! You'll never go back!

we must find old pickle stock before it's too late. it's the only way to be sure!

No problem. My buddy makes a batch every couple of weeks, they totally blew me away! The ingredients are a little exotic but nothing you can't find locally. Plus you get to use a mortar! :awe:

I doubt that would be possible BUT I CAN BUY ANOTHER BRAND OF THE SAME SIZE, (24fl oz) and do a comparison. I remember when products packed in any kind of juice was listed as "weight of product is XX", the someone in the FDA probably got paid a wad of $$ to allow the change, technically the way it stands now they could put 10 slices in there and it would be legal. That won't happen of course because no one would buy it but making the slices 35% bigger is a work-around most people won't notice, I should call their 1-800# and go off like the infamous "sausage rant"..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4RNb3tt0LM

Wtf is "Bread and Butter Chips"? Sounds like some garbage. Those aren't like them little sweet pickles are they? Because those make me want to die, they taste so bad. I literally get so depressed the though of enduring any more of that awful taste in my mouth is enough to end my life.

What are they doing with the slices that come off the end of the pickle though? If the slices are all ~35% bigger then the end slices would be too small to include since the pickle tapers at each end. Surely any money they save on product in the jar is nullified by throwing away the slices near the end.

Couldn't the grind the ends up into relish?

I noticed something the other day, I bought some Vlasic bread+butter pickles, (BOGO deal) but the chips are cut about 35% bigger than they used to be, then I figured out why, with bigger chips it makes room for more pickle juice as the bigger slices cannot pack together tightly, after finishing the jar I weighed the liquid, 16oz. That means I only got 8oz of pickles since the jar is sold by liquid quantity (24fl oz). Just another scheme to maximize profits at the consumers expense, I just thought fellow OT'ers ought to know before selecting this product, they tasted fine as usual but damm those scheming pickle bastards!

Bread and butter pickles are in the same boat as swee tea. They are an abomination to pickles everywhere. True pickes are dill or dill and garlic. Pickles should not be sweet, just as tea should not be sweet.

It really is a novel manifestation of the grocery shrink ray.

Yes, among with selling slightly smaller package sizes like a half-gallon of ice cream that's not 64oz, it's correctly labeled in tiny font ant the bottom of the box.

The way every Gardner that grows cucumbers gives them away, I'm guessing that the jar is their most expensive input.

So fiddling with the quantities in the jar to increase profits is hardly worth the potential fallout due to outraged customers then.

They are not the only food company that has reduced package size/qty instead of or addition to of raising prices. I don't think there has been any backlash.
