Thanks for the heads up. I was seriously considering the Sceptre 32" LCD HDTV but came to the conclusion it's really to small even for the bed room. I may check out the 42' Plasma for $999.

All depends on how far away you are from the TV.

I'm only 7 feet from my 32" LCD and it seems ok for me. Doesn't have the "wow" factor, but gets the job done. Would love a 37"+ though to get that "wow" factor ;)

These prices seem good, nice to see falling prices!

I know this isn't a review post, but I bought the Vizio 42" HDTV plasma a few months ago and took it back the next day to get the Panasonic. The HD programming looks pretty good, but the SD was pretty awful, and the Panasonic was miles ahead of it in both HD and SD television, although it made a much bigger difference in SD. Considering how low the Panasonics are now, I think it's definately worth it to shell out a few hundred more and get a TV that will blow you away.

Also depends on what your upgrading from...If your upgrading a room from a 19 inch 12 year old set to a 32 inch LCD then its got "wow" written all over it :D

This is going to be my first HDTV. I'm currently using a 36" Magnavox tube that only goes up to S-video (yes... please, cringe. I have to sit so close to the screen playing games like Gears of War that I could leave steam on the glass if it was cold enough in the room)... but I don't want to bust the bank on buying a TV. I'd rather wait for 1080p to be in the market for a couple of years so that it becomes "commonplace" (i.e. cheaper)... my couch is only about 10' tops from where the screen would be.

So, which would the better $999 deal be? This is a damn nice selling point and way easier to convince the wife about than something even $200 more.

So... the Vizio VP42HDTV at Costco or the Panasonic PT-52LCX66 at Circuit City?

I plan on watching DVD movies, watching TV and playing my 360 on it. Not planning on getting an HD-DVD player just yet and I don't subscribe to Comcast's HD cable service.

The PT-52LCX66 is a rear-projection LCD. It's 50", as opposed to the Vizio's 42" ... but it doesn't come with Costco's carry-in "lifetime" warranty (yes, you have to carry it in, but it's a damn nice deal).

I got a look at the VP42 at Costco tonight. It was nice, but the GV42L was nicer... but $300 more.

It's defiinately a dilemna.

Costco: Not as good as Panny, but a decent set at that price. A plasma and a great return/exchange policy.

Circuit City: Larger screen, probably better picture but an LCD rear projection (which will need replacement parts a few times before the Plasma dies) and getting the same level of cust. service as Costco would cost ME an extra couple hundred dollars at least.

Or am I missing an even hotter deal?

Personally I would go with the Plasma. I have one (Panasonic) and they can't be beat, especially by a rear projection TV. They just look 100% better IMO. Plus, even if you don't like it you can take it back whenever you want at Costco. And it won't be to big of a hassle since it will only weigh <80lbs.

I say go with the Plasma, if you don't like it take it back and get the other one.

Get the Vizio plasma, an OTA HD STB, and an antenna and never look back. That's the setup I have in my gameroom. I use the OTA HD STB for tv (even SD content looks great) and have a DVD player and an XBOX hooked up as well. Paid $1999 for my Vizio plasma back when it was the first HD plasma to break the $2k mark and still don't regret it.

EDTV isn't the same as HDTV.

Yes, I looked as well cuz it sounded too good to be true.

Meijer's BF ad shows the resolution at 852 x 480, which kills it for me. I'd be drooling over this one otherwise.

My mother has the P50HDTV from Costco and paid just under $2000 for it during the summer. It has been a fantastic tv with lots of great reviews.

i bought the vizio p42hdtv back in may for 1599. thought that was a good deal back then. the 10,000:1 contrast ratio is amazing for the price. dont know if the one in the ad has the same specs since its got a little different part number.

vizio=great quality for cheap price, plus costco's warranty is the best in the biz

Well if you read under the description only 5 per store will be given at this price. So chances are this is a good deal, but not great for everyone to have one.

Cree

It's a minimum of 5 per store. I agree, it will be a hard item to get at that price.

That would be a tough choice between the Panny and the Vizio. The Panny has name recognition and HD tuner built in, but chances of getting one are likely very slim. The Vizio does not have the built in HD tuner (mine doesn't, maybe they do now?), but does have detachable speakers, Costco warranty, and possibly better chance of actually getting one.

Glad I don't have to decide!
