You can hook up almost anything.

DVD, Camcorder, VHS, Playstation 2

You can make VCD, Divx out of your DVD or VHS movies.

You can also watch TV from your video in by hooking up a VCR.

Which chip usually does this? If a video card has VIVO, does this mean that it has a Philips SA7108 chip?

And, is VIVO worth the extra money?

To me it's worth the extra money. Because I like making VCDs.

What are you talking about? Philips SA7108???? It means it has video in and out video out plugs. It is included with a video card like ATI radeon 64meg VIVO or some other NVidia vivo card. ATI has higher quality though.

Regarding the chip, check this page out:

http://www.sparkle.com.tw/product/nvidia/sp6800pci.htm

Scroll down to "Video in / Video out Optional module". See the encoder chip? The Philips SAA7108 is the same one used in digital satellite recievers, so it should have good quality. That's why I want the card to have that chipset.

Anyway, would you get:

Gainward GeForce 2 TITANIUM Ti/500XP 64MB DDR VIVO Golden Sample Plus (GF2Ti)

or

Gainward GeForce2 TwinView/VIVO Golden Sample 32MB Supports 2 Monitors (G2MX400)

Difference is 26$. I think I might get the GF2Ti, or a Radeon 7500 w/ TV-OUT only, what do you think?

OK, another question, how can you hook up the sound from the DVD/Camcorder/TV to the card, if it only has video-in connectors? I understand the video part, but what about the sound? Input and output?

The sound gets hooked up to your soundcard. The current radeons do not have video in. The older ones do.(some of them). To get video in with a current radeon you could get a tv card. I saw one in hot deals for $29+-

I have been thinking about getting that first card myself for a long time, and if I was going to get one now, that is the one I would get. BTW, some use the chip you mentioned and some do not, so you need to look in to what chip it is using for those functions.

Video in and video out of Nvidia chips doesn't have a good quality. If you really want to record and such and you really want an Nvidia card, buy another tuner card and separate video card.
