It breaks down food to a level not achievable with less powerful blenders. Good for people with certain digestive issues, raw foodists, and commercial kitchens.

And for people who don't like unexpected chunks in their smoothies D:

That can happen in any blender if you don't let it run long enough, I've got a $30 cheapie that blends everything just fine, 3 yrs old and still works like new.

You chose the 2 best blenders out there for smoothie making. This comparison review covers it all. I went with a Vitamix and it is AMAZING for smoothie making!

My sister-in-law has a Blendtec and it is great too! Choose the one you like better.

lol... a $30 blender basically can't do anything other than grind food down to significantly large chunks. We make about 60 different kinds of food that require the level of grinding provided by a Vitamix or Blendtec. We tried all of the lower cost blenders and none of them could even come close to providing the necessary level of grinding.

We save so much money by owning a Vitamax that it's actually kind of ridiculous. I feed a family of four for $400/month and that's extremely healthy food, which is a lot more expensive. The bill was probably $150/month higher before we started making so much food, so the Vitamix paid itself off in 3 months. Besides being healthier, the food we make also tastes a lot better.

For only having 3 posts, that is actually a pretty good link

I own a Vitamix and love it.

A tad off topic but I love HP claims.

Let's see, 3HP = 746 watts (approximately). So that's 2238W. Standard circuit is 15 amps, or 1800W. And yes, many kitchens do have 20 amp circuits. But does this blender have a 20 amp plug on it? I'd bet my left arm it doesn't.

My favourite is still shop vacs claiming 6 "peak" hp. What a load of bull.

I'm always amazed at how much stuff I use my Blendtec for. Even if it's just in conjunction with other stuff, like pureeing fruit to pour into the dehydrator for healthier snacks. Lately I've been making a lot of cashew cream for a kind of dairy-free Alfredo sauce, it's actually the bomb!

I agree. I started out with a Oster - don't remember the price but certainly under $100. As I used it more and more for things other than drinks and smoothies it crapped out - it actually went up in smoke. After that I had a kitchenaid which cost over $100 - it lasted a couple of months before it i couldn't use it anymore - nut butters, forget about it!

Once I got a Vitamix my blending world changed.

Basically if you use it - it will be worth more than its cost. But like anything else, if you buy something and don't really use it, then it's a waste of money at any price.

Get this one! It's awesome and the best value around. I was looking all over and reading reviews. The price is ridiculous. I would never pay more for a vitamix or anything else after finding this at this price:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I bought it last week. Love it. So glad I didn't spend $400 more. I promise you you'll be totally happy with it.

The dash is only $144 now on prime.

I've been using mine to make smoothies for every single morning for the last two months. I'm a super happy with it. Incredibly robust, build like a tank, huge powerful motor, very heavy and quality parts. Easy to use dial. This has got to be the biggest steal of the century. I actually can't believe it's so inexpensive.

I chose the Vitamix S30 because we're just two people. For smoothies, the built in 20 ounce travel mug is just magnificent. The 40 ounce container is perfect for all our other uses, like hummus (or smoothies for multiple people), etc. etc.

While I wanted something like the 750 or equivalent Blendtec, I had to acknowledge that we're just two people, and will be for long into the future (no interest in having a family). All the other Blendtecs and Vitamixes preferred either midrange or large batches for blending, all of which would leave a lot of waste given our lifestyles and schedules.

I came from a 1970s Osterizer Blender that finally gave out, and we couldn't be happier with our S30.

Something to keep in mind for those reading this thread, who don't necessarily have a lot of mouths to feed with their blender.

I haven't tried it personally, don't know why one would, but there's a test on those two particular models.

As for me, I have a Blendtec and am very happy with its performance. It has torn through everything we've thrown at it without breaking a sweat. The only downside is the massive noise it makes, may as well pause the TV and not talk during the blend. Other than that, great machine.

Thanks for the link. This may have changed my mind. My kids like juice. Do both of these things make juice pretty easily?

What kind of Juice?

For fruit juice a Vitamix/Blendtec will work great.

For greens juice look at an Omega.

No it's JUST as good as those. That's my point. No need to waste money when you don't need to. It's not a cheap blender by any means even though it's been reduced in price. It's extremely heavy duty and has like the same specs even. Possibly a new model coming out soon. Think of one of your models above going on sale and selling for $400 less. You'd be stupid not to buy it. I'd put money on it if anyone bought the one I posted that you would not have any desire to get those other ones. For $400 less it's worth a try. You can return it if you don't like it, but I bet you'd keep it and have $400 more in the bank.

You can't tell from the photo but the base if huge with a very powerful motor in it. Once you see it in person and use it it's very impressive. If you read the reviews some of the people even say they have or had Vitamix blenders (possibly at different locations or for different things, I don't know). And they say how much they love the Dash blender.

I was intrigued, as I love a good value. But this review says otherwise

BTW, I have no skin in the game as I am ok with my Oster crappy bender.

edit: still a good value as it is half the price of a refurb vitamix

If anyone is looking for an interesting recipe for their high-powered blender...

Chocolate Avocado Pudding:

One ripe avocado
Cocoa powder
Maple syrup
Granulated sugar
Water

No real amounts, just make it to taste. I usually run it through 2 cycles on "Whole Juice" (which is a powerful blending mode that varies the speed throughout the cycle) to make it super creamy, then throw it in the fridge to chill since it gets warm during blending. Avocado makes a great mousse/pudding/frosting by varying the amount of liquid in it. This tastes just like Jello chocolate pudding cups (the sugars & cocoa powder covers the avocado flavor up) - still has sugar, just a bit healthier since it uses avocado & has no preservatives. My toddler loves this stuff; I actually throw a scoop of protein powder in it so it can be a meal replacement hehe.

Granulated sugar

Has a lower Glycemic Index so you won't get the bounce off the walls effect with a kid like with plain sugar.

I brought my Nutribullet to Thailand and blew out the motor. I should have known better. Anyway, I went to the mall in Bangkok and bought an inexpensive 600 watt blender for my green drinks. It even crushes ice great. Not bad. The cost was about $80 USD
