Can somebody explain to me why Visual Studio .NET is so damned big. I just want Visual Basic .net and with all the templates, and all that other crap that M$oft likes to force feed it, it's over a gig to install. If this stupid install isn't done by the time i'm done writing this thread I'm going back to VB6. Since this is a short rant, I'll give M$oft a chance and type with one hand...

.NET was a complete overhaul of Visual Studio. Instead of each language compiling to its own libraries, now VB, C#, ASP, etc. all compile to .NET bytecode.

Because there is so much to it. You are installing the base package, which is what is taking up so much room. Adding another .NET language is really small and simple. Also, the documentation takes up tons of room.

If you skip the documentation (which I don't really recommend, unless you already know what you're doing), it's not that big.
