Visual Studio 2005 and Vista

anyone have any info on using Visual Studio 2005 with Vista? just installed it and it pops up a message saying compatibility problems with this version of windows (I am running vista ultimate NON BETA). you would think VS 2005 would work out of the box.

The majority of things work fine. I couldn't tell you what doesn't work, since I'm not much of a dev. There is an update under development to make VS fully compatible with Vista. The reason why it isn't now is that Vista was a moving target for the VS team almost right up until RTM.

There are problems with SQL Server 2005 too- you have to install SQL SP2 and SP1 for VS2005

Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 is not fully compatible with Vista - MS is working on an update. But SQL 2005 Service Pack 2 is compatible.

sql 2005 sp2 is only out as a community technology preview (at least when i last looked at it)
vs 2005 sp1 isn't fully compatible with vista, but there is a FAQ with various workarounds

thanks, I downloaded VS2005 SP1 (installing now) and the VISTA BETA upgrade. hope this works until MS can release a proper patch.

I just installed Vista Business and will need to install VS 2005 soon.

I think I will just wait (I can still use XP for now). I installed SP1 for VS2005Pro then downloaded the update for Vista but it is a beta designed for the beta/RC versions of Vista. It states not for use in production which is a no go for me. Kind of lame MS can not even get an official Service Pack for VS2005 considering Vista Business has been out for over a month. Plus the SP for SQL2005 with Vista did not work. I received an error when updating (and I did apply SP1 for SQL 2005 first).

I hope MS can get an official SP out soon I would really like to switch to Vista but for now I will stick with XP.
