Vista's mbr

Can someone explain to me why fdisk /mbr does not work in Vista (it breaks Vista)? It is my understanding that the initial boot process has not changed. So what gives?

What version of Vista are you using? I have home premium, and fdisk is not included.

How is the disk you are trying to use fdisk on formatted? If it is NTFS like it should be since you are using Vista, that is the source of your problem. You can't use fdisk on a drive formatted in NTFS.

The disk signature is heavily used in the bcd, and since fdisk /mbr overwrites it, it means big trouble.
