When I try to put my computer to sleep in S3 mode, most of the times it works.

Sometimes, it will hang with the fans and other lights still on, but it just hangs forever until I manually reboot.

something similar happens to me. it usually doesn't hibernate and goes to the password screen, or reboots when sleep doesn't work. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

When mine goes to sleep, it REALLY goes to sleep!
I move the mouse, the lights on my case come on, the fans start spinning, but no display. I have to turn off the machine & restart it. Of course then I get the "Windows did not shut down properly......" screen.
I went into the "Power Options" & chose "never go to sleep" to see if that helps.

couple of things to check... make sure you have the latest BIOS on your MB. Also, in BIOS setup, make sure that your sleep state is set to S3 if you want that. Also, you might want to make sure all your devices support S3 (including their drivers). Can we get a list of other devices in your system?

Well, the thing is on S3 mode, it works most of the time exactly as intended: maybe even 99% of the time. But when it doesn't work, it's consistent in its symptoms, and is likely to cause some data degradation, and if the wrong data is corrupted, then there is the real concern.

I doubt it has anything to do with the settings because it does work most of the time.

Besides, the listed devices, my video card is an ECS 9600GT. I would imagine it has something to do with the chipset, which is a P35 Express.
