This post explains all the calls I am getting today about Vista being discontinued and if they should buy XP.

I'm sure a few hate visual studio and would rather code everything in a text file and then run a command line compiler.

it can be very useful when you pull 200 pics off a digital camera and don't want them to be named imgXXX.jpg. Like if I took a bunch at the Zoo they could be "zoo-XXX.jpg" I honestly didn't know Explorer could do this, it's a very useful feature for some of us, even if it's just a few people. When I found Ztree (Windows Xtree port) I almost died. I still use Ztree to this day :)

Just for the record thats 2 clicks in Picasa. Thats a lot less work than typing any CLI

this isn't a nerd fight, a true Nerd understands the awesomness which is DOS and a CLI over a GUI. Anyone who discredits DOS and CLI's is at best a wanna be nerd, and should be ignored.

This is true.

Oh and why MS omitted telnet.exe from the default Vista installation is

Wow I didn't know that, I just tried it and sure enough there's no Telnet! now I gotta install a 3rd part app when I want to connect to my shell. What the fuck Microsoft? telnet.exe took all of a few hundred k. This fucking blows.

Does it really blow? I mean, if you didn't know about it at all in the first place...

Yes, I just installed Vista last week and haven't had to connect to my shell yet, I do once a month to edit my web site. Now I have to track down a telnet program that's Vista 64 compatible because MS was too fucking stupid to include a USEFUL program, I'm sure they have some great explination at to why the removed it.

Because anyone that still uses Telnet hasn't used a MS Telnet program in ump-teen years? Get Putty and SSH and be done with it.

Hell even in Windows I show people keyboard shortcuts because doing the majority of shit with a mouse takes longer.

But no one ever does or ever will. It doesn't matter what "can" happen. All that matters is what "does" happen.

Real profits > Projected profits

GUI's have proven that businesses make more money in less time than they would with a CLI. The answer is in the numbers and those numbers are the only thing that matters. If you believe otherwise, then sell a product that proves otherwise and let us know how that works out for you. Until then, stop talking unjustified speculation as if it were a fact.

2 clicks? you still have to type in the name you want the files to be no? Unless Picasa can magically read my mind and know what I want the names to be.

I hate people who needed DOS to use computers. I use a sharp rock and scratch crude images of stick men spearing buffalo into the monitor, then rub two sticks together to make a small fire in the case with dried dung and twigs.

LOL, telnet for remote access?

The 80's called and they want their program back. You do realize that telnet is totally unsecure and everything you do is sent in plain text across the network links right? Yes, even your login credentials.

backspace and it clears out and names the files with the date/time + resolution.

Just wanted to make a quick correction. Vista does have telnet, it's just not added in the default installation I think. You can install it quickly by changing the Windows programs that are installed.

I hate people who need to use sharp rocks, dung and fire to use computers. I use my finger to draw a line in the dirt, then I fart.
