Vista/XP Open License Key

Ok, so I?m looking to purchase open license keys for 100 seats. I was told by my sales rep. and the licensing specialist that the open license key I will receive will actually be a 2007 or "Vista" key, but i was ordering XP with software assurance and that the key would work on XP and Vista. Now, I?m not thinking of rolling vista out yet due to the infamous history Microsoft has with new os's but am order the media disk for XP and Vista so that i may install vista to use it on a select few computers.

Can anyone tell me if this is for real or is something wrong with this?

Thanks,
Cheesey

I suppose they could use the key, really no idea hehe.
but afaik for the volume license of Vista you will need to setup an authetication server that will have the client periodically check in and validate.

There's two ways to get "free" Vista upgrades from XP.

1) Obtain XP licenses and buy "Software Assurance". This will give you free upgrades to Vista.
2) Obtain Vista licenses and use your "downgrade rights". Most volume licenses allow you to use the previous version of the OS if you wish. You can upgrade to the Vista version when you want.

I DON'T know pricing for the two options. Offhand, I'd take a hard look at the "Vista with NO Software Assurance" option, since there won't be any Vista upgrades for a while, I think.
