Right, my vista box is pretty much up and running, however i'm having problems connecting to the existing wireless network in my house?

Hardware:
Netgear DG34GT Modem/Switch
Netgear WG311v3 Adapter

My wireless network worked fine with XP, however when i installed the adapter in my new vista box it worked for a few hours then decided it didn't want to play

Identifying features of problem:

- Two networks appear in "Network and sharing centre" - one private (my home network) and one unidentified public
- In the status window of my private wireless network and the unidentified public network the IPv4 connectivity is "Local" - in the wired connection it's "Internet"
- Internet works fine when connected to router by ethernet cable, with or without wireless adapter, but can only connect locally with the network cable unplugged and working on wireless only

I have tried:
- Disabling/Enabling wireless adapter, with and without rebooting
- Rebooting router
- Using another adapter (USB WG111T)
- Manually assigning IP address to wireless adapter (same as i've always used, other computers on network have assigned addresses too)
- Installing latest firmware on router
- Disabled IPv6 for wireless connection

Any ideas? I know the router works with vista as my sister's laptop connects fine when she's here

IPCONFIG results:

You have two NICs configured and alive on the same network.

Bad idea!

jesus christ vista is annoying!!!

i "solved" the first problem by uninstalling then reinstalling the wireless PCI card, and with the aid of a crucifix, garlic and a wooden stake we made it through the first night

now this morning i restart and the wireless won't even connect to the network, citing "authentication timout" as the problem, the laughable "diagnosis" tool simple sayd to look in the wireless logs (which might as well be Marcel Proust's "À la recherche du temps perdu" in terms of length and how easily understood they are) or to connect to another network

Given up on wireless security, now running unsecured and filtering MAC addresses in the router, i live out of town anyway so the chances of anyone really wanting to connect to my network are slim to none
