Vista x64 keeps freezing.

Hi, I recently installed Vista 64 premium on a new computer, and I am experiencing numerous crashes. 3dmark06 runs for a few minutes then crashes, orthos crashes, as do prime95, memtest86, cpuz and other benchmarking programs. WinSAT also can't complete itself; my screen and mouse freeze when it starts to scan the memory. I think there might be something wrong with my memory, but what really frustrates and concerns me is that the windows memory diagnostic tool never works. It freezes after only 1-3% (I left it on for at least 30min and it had not progressed and the f1 control was unresponsive). Is there some other way to test my ram ( I do not have any spare parts) or stop my computer from constantly freezing?

q6600 with ultra 120 ext. heatsink
2 x 2gb g.skill ddr2 800 (the memory seems pretty warm after a little use, is this normal?)
Gigabyte p35 ds3r mobo
640mb 8800 gts

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Format drive. Install XP. Problem solved. I guarantee it.

And don't bother asking me the "Have you even tried Vista yet?" question. I have. I gave Vista Ultimate 30 minutes and that's all it needs to say "this is a POS."

Stay on topic. If you're not going to help this member, stay out of the thread.

Don't listen to the Vista basher, he doesn't have a clue (30min is not enough time to evaluate an OS:roll:), you obviously have a hardware problem.

First thing that comes to mind is your RAM is under it's spec voltage in the BIOS. Check the manufacturer's website for the spec voltage of your RAM, it's probably between 1.9v and 2.2v. Your motherboard is likely defaulting to 1.8v.

You can use memtest86 as well to test your RAM.

No more name calling. I just edited out 6 posts because they have nothing to do with the topic. Knock it off.

Are you overclocking?

My rig had the same symptoms when I installed Vista 64-bit until I got back everything to stock speeds, downloaded all the updates and then raised the voltage on my NB a bit.

Otherwise, it definetly sounds like you've got bad memory, specially with Memtest86 (you are booting into Memtest86 when running it, right?) crashing.

I agree with the above members, sounds like a hardware/ram problem so start with running Memtest86+, they have different bootdisk versions at their site.

Btw try removing one stick as well, there are some problems with 4GB with some motherboards, there's also a fix at Microsoft website for 4GB if it turns out to be the problem.

Comment Deleted. Did you not read what I just wrote above??? You have now made me edit another flaming post. Next guy that does it gets a vacation.

Sorry Mods I could not let that pass.
