vista x64 internet problems

Here's the situation: Suddenly (and I'm sure I did something, but can't figure out what), some of my programs that connect to the internet are no longer working. IE7 (the 32 bit version) will no long connect to any websites (cannot display the webpage error). Typing something like "cnn.com" will result in an address bar of "http:///" and an "address not valid" message. "http://www.cnn.com" also gets a "cannot display the webpage" message, but the small icon in the address bar to the left of the address changes to the CNN logo.

Trillian will report that it is connected but in reality it doesn't seem to be doing so and is giving a "socket error."

IE-64, on the other hand, does work and works properly.

Any ideas?

i had the same issue happen to me and i went under
c/windows/temp
and deleted everything in the folder and magicly my 32 bit ie worked once again. i thinks its spyware.

Thanks for the suggestion, though it didn't seem to work.

One other symptom- closing IE (32-bit) or Trillian results in a "X has stopped working" error, rather than just closing.
