Vista, worth upgrading?

Ok, my brother gave me an awsome offer to upgrade to vista ultimate for $50 and I was wondering if vista is all its craked yp to be, cuz when i use xp my computer does not use much ram, but if vista has tons of new fetures i dont want to miss out on them.. I have 1.99 GHz CPU, 1024 MB RAM, and a GeForce 6200 with 256 MB of DDR Memory. Thanks!!

I wouldn?t update yet, not enough software supports it. I would still take that offer though, if nothing else you could sell it in the ?For Sale/Trade Forums? or on eBay and make a profit. You could also just wait on installing it.

Depends what you mean by software support,I find that my XP programs that I often use run fine in Vista x64,even all the games I have installed so far work fine(16 so far),oh and I have all my 64 bit drivers too for ALL my hardware, not bad for a new OS.

$50 is a good deal for Vista Ultimate,I think its worth a shot personally.

Pick it up now for $50 and then wait another 6 months....current drivers are very immature, especially video card drivers.

I'm rolling back to WinXP PRO after I finish evaluating Vista Ultimate, to much of a performance drop to be worth while using at the moment, especially for games.

Although I must say, if it wasn't for the poor games performance I would continue to use Vista, it is a very nice Operating system as far as features and stability goes...even if the UAC does become annoying after awhile.

$50 is a great deal, get it and if you decide you dont want to use it now then just hold on to the disk an install in a few months when some of the bugs are worked out. I am using vista64 and have been for a while and i haven't run into many compatibility issues (and those I have, have been fairly simple to deal with), unless you run some realy old programs (or games with horrible drm (starforce) you shouldn't have problems with moving to vista, though you will probably need to update your security software as most of the older ones don't support vista).

Even if you aren't going to use it definitely take it.

The issue on whether to use it is a little more complex, if you have a nVidia video card, a non XiFi sound card, logitech peripherals that need drivers or other things with poor driver support I would say go for it. I haven't seen a real performance drop in games and there are so many really nice features that seem like why weren't they here before, UAC can be annoying during setup but after that it doesn't really bother me.

Yeah buy it irrespective of whether you use it or not...its too good a deal.

and NO I'm not impressed by VISTA and this is coming from an MSFANBOY. Nothing has impressed me in the OS and that includes the famed aeroglass

Vista will get better but right now it still has too many problems for me to use it as my primary OS... having said that however, for $50 you shouldn't think twice about snagging a copy of Ultimate & either using it in a dual-boot configuration with XP the way I am now or just sitting on it till later when it matures.

Definitely worth getting - driver support is improving (not Microsoft's fault anyway) and I'm really enjoying using it. If you're worried at all setup a dual boot config and test it but for that price I'd go for it.

driver support is terrible, problems with programs. I had it for a week, before it stopped booting up because of a driver conflict. back to xp now
