Vista won't install SP2?

Anyone ever run into this?

I downloaded the update via Windows Update. My Vista is clean and registered, so that shouldn't be an issue. Windows downloads and installs the updates with no problem. Reboot and there are 3 stages for the update. 1 & 2 install no problem, computer automatically reboots. Stage 3 gets all the way to 100% and then says "Service pack not installed. Reverting changes".

No error messages to check out, no "click here for detaisl" box. Just fail.

Anyone have some tips for me? I hate running out of date Windows.

Make sure your computer has the right date. I've had trouble with updates before where my CMOS battery was dead, so the date was resetting to some ancient BIOS date everytime the computer was unplugged.

Yea...that didn't help either.

I posted on MS's forum. We'll see how many years it takes to get a reply.

still no reply from MS

I've uninstalled every aftermarket driver and the install still fails...even doing the standalone install.

I am very flustered.

never mind if you do not know what vlite is you did not use it then. if you would have used it that would be why you can not install SP2. to bad it is OEM and not retail

I have retail vista and had issues via windows update as well, i was able to download a image of SP2 install CD from MS and burn it onto a CD, i then used the CD to install SP2 and it went fine.

Interesting....

so if I had a Vista cd with sp2 I could just install the service pack?

no, sorry for not being clear. i didnt download a new OS install CD, it was only the packages required to install the servicepack. I had retail vista with SP1 installed. I could not download SP2 through windows update. I downloaded SP2 packages from MS and burned them on a CD, then i put that CD in the drive and ran the setup file and it installed SP2.
