I just upgrade to Vista Ult 64 and my generic USB memory card reader won't read my 2Gig SD Memory card. The card is formatted FAT from my camera. When I put the card in, Vista sees it as a 984Meg RAW partition. I can format it, but it formats to 1Gig. I can use a Camera formatted 1Gig card with no issues. I even tried a 4Gig Compact Flash with no issues, just the 2Gig SD Card. I even tried two different brands of cards with the same results. I also tried using the card reader on a different Vista Machine with Business 32 with the same results.

I have a problem opened with MS, but I wanted to get an idea if others are having similar issues. I personally believe it has to do with the MS Generic Driver, but the won't admit that. Everything works fine with XP.

i have an older lexar reader that read my 2gb SD card in xp just fine, but in vista, everyime i put the card in it says it needed to be formatted. and if i formatted it, i would only format to just under 1gb (9xxmb). i just bought a new reader that supported SDHC (SD high capacity) cards even though the 2gb isnt a SDHC. it works fine in vista now.

Thanks for the replay Homer.

I'm trying to avoid buying a new memory card reader since the one I have is a special internal/external that fits in a 5.25" drive bay. I believe if MS wrote the drivers correctly, it would work fine.

Those internal card readers are convenient, but not always the best.
I personally use a SanDisk Card Reader .. they are cheap (under $40)
and are external ... just plug into a usb port .. in my case, into a usb port
on a SanDisk USB Powered Hub .. easy to get to when I need it .. or if you
enough desk space, leave it plugged in if you use it very often.
