Vista+Windows Update=FUBAR . . .

Anyone else have Windows Update stop working recently? I keep getting a Code 80073712. Spent a hour and a half on the phone with MS tech support and nothing they tried worked. Someone higher up the food chain is supposed to call me Monday and see if he can fix the problem. Oh joy, I get to be a guinea pig!:|

Did you follow the directions here? (be sure to do that from an elevated command prompt, e.g. right click on cmd.exe and say 'run as administrator'
 
I tried that before calling MS tech support. That entry is not in my registry. Here is what has been tried so far with no fix.

Result:Cannot Update

Yeah, they know about it! Tech support closes at 3:00PM PDT and I was on the phone until 4:30PM with them before the tech gave up and escalated the problem up a level. I will post back if I get a fix for the problem.
 
Problem fixed after another 1-1/2 hours on the phone with MS support.

Clean install of Vista. What a suprise! Well at least it works now.

What tech support were you calling???

Tech support here does not close. Ever.
