I tried to upgrade to SP1, it failed for some reason and reverted to original, it wasted at least an hour on my computer, after that it gets worse, it keeps uninstalling some DX9 and 10 files eachtime I restart comp or restart a 3D application and it would also delete some of the nVidia drivers, I would lose the control panel each time I start/close games, and after that it won't allow dx10 mode in games.

Now I just reinstalled the OS from x86 vista to x64 vista (another 2 hours + many more cause I have reinstall alot of things), I lost all reloading and footstep sounds in Farcry 2, reinstall FC2 and all proper x64 video/sound driver, still no sounds

While trying to install rivatuner, it says it won't install because 1 of the .sys files are not digitally signed, Vista is garbage, Microsoft is garbage.

Sounds more like user error, bad hardware, malware, a virus or something else.

Which version of rivaturner? For x64 u need signed drivers, newest version or rivaturner comes with that.

Once again what drivers you using for the gfx card? x86 and x64 are not compatible.
I've instaled vista numerous times on both mine (4 of em) and my family's comps without any major issues, so either your comp is unstable or you are doing something wrong by using wrong software/ drivers.

Needed to install SP1 on a laptop for someone. This laptop gets a 3.5 performance rating in Vista. It took well over an hour to install. I was multitasking, in the time it took SP1 to install, I was setting up a windows XP system and loaded SP3 / IE7 / 38 Windows critical updates, Joined the system to a domain and installed Wordperfect, Symantec Endpoint and 3 other applications.

Vista is ridiculous....

Installing either service pack 2 or 3 in XP is no faster.

Theres nothing wrong with the video, my comp is not unstable pal, I can pass prime95 just fine, it's just the guns don't have any reloading sound, and the footstep sounds not there in FarCry 2, and I already have the latest x64 drivers from Realtek for my HD audio what else can I be doing wrong? STOP DEFENDING Microsoft and their buggy products.

Lucky you. Vista SP1 took ~4 hours to install, failed, then took another 2 hours to uninstall. Not trying that again any time soon.

Yep. Everyone who who spreads FUD about Vista do it because they are mad at the OS for some reason or another. The FUD needs to stop.

Why the fuck do people defend this POS OS? It's BETA quality at best.

When you stop defending Ubisoft, and Unwinder for their crappy, poorly coded software.

Edit: the sound problems are purely related to a bug in either FarCry 2 or Realtek. The most obvious place to look first is FC2.

The problem with you people is you are soooo convinced you are in the majority (having a bad Vista experience.) that you can't even get it through your thick heads that the majority of Vista users have a positive experience with the operating system. Ubuntu gives me fits every time I install it, yet I don't go around claiming Ubuntu is a piece of shit just because I personally am having troubles with it.

Yeah, I just had some issues with Ubuntu as well. After googling to no avail I decided to reinstall the damn thing (using wubi to install under Vista). After reinstall it still didn't work, which was quite irritating. Then it hit me - Vista never shut down properly (I waited more than 15 minutes before hitting the power button) and had locked the file system. I booted Vista into safe mode, rebooted (omg, it restarted almost instantly), and Ubuntu worked fine.

You're right, Ubuntu is a piece of shit.

I used Ubuntu as an example, but you could substitute all the major distros and some of the minor ones that I have installed/configured over the years. I have yet to install a Linux distro that never gave me some kind of fit some where. FC, Suse, Debian, Mepis, PCLOS, and Linux Mint all give me fits in one way or another that I never experience when installing Vista. All I can say is thank the Deities for Google.

Because we know how to use computers?

I've had far less problems with Vista x64 than any other OS. Well, aside from drivers and other crap that don't play well with 64-bit...but I knew that going in.

Can you read? I have been installing SP3 on systems for the last few weeks, none have taken more than 20 Minutes to install.

Yes I can read and I have also installed SP3 many times myself along with SP1 for Vista. They take approximately the same amount of time to install using the stand alone installer. If you install using Windows Update, only missing pieces are installed if you keep your operating system updated regularly and could result in differing times to install.

Because MOST of the problems are user error and most Vista users are having no issues, want to go back in time to when XP was released and 2K users were bashing that?..or do you suffer from memory lost too, lets see I have hmm 98 games installed all working fine with sound in Vista x64,I won't even bother meantioning my Vista x86 laptop(again no issues),all my hardware/software works fine, you want to tell me I have problems with Vista and its beta now?...

Btw want to bet when Windows 7 is released some users will starting blaming the OS as soon as they get their first issue, funny how users don't remember issues they had with XP and previous operating systems, guess they have some sort of memory lost too.

Its very easy to blame the OS as soon as you get a problem(I know what I'm talking about since I had issues in 98 and XP but I went with time and effort troubleshooting the cause to find out it was not the OS ).

Its sad that I know there will be FUD spread about Windows 7 and 8 when they are released,we can improve hardware and software but sadly can't improve users FUD when it comes to their ideas about operating systems

Lastly no OS is perfect and expect at some point in time to get a problem or two,it does not mean the OS or hardware you are using is crap ,just fact of life when it comes to users with PCs,many things can cause problems from user to hardware,we live in an imperfect world.

More problems can be fixed by troubleshooting then bitching about it.

In the example quoted, I used the stand alone installer for SP3 and Vista SP1. The Vista SP1 took at least 4 times longer to install. I also find that Windows Updates in general take forever on a Vista system.

That's your problem, using the standalone installer will always take longer. For Vista, the full SP1 x64 standalone is over 700MB. Grabbing it through the Windows Update utility will get a much smaller version and will install much faster. It took about 30 minutes to install SP1 x64 on my Vista PC last night.

Yes, Windows 7 looks promising because it looks to be "Vista done right", or rather Vista once it comes out of BETA. SP1 should be called RC1, and SP2 is RC2.

I spent hours troubleshooting this Vista install, trying to figure out why it won't shutdown properly, but despite the improvements in Vista's error logging I couldn't figure it out. If it wasn't Adobe's Acrobat Reader causing shutdown problems it was Sun's Java, or Nvidia's Control Panel, or Windows' Calculator, or Firefox, etc, etc, ad nauseum. In other words, no one application was the culprit, so it has to be the damn OS. I can count on two hands the number of times Vista has shut down properly in over a year.

You care to explain then why 99% of users don't have this problem,my Vista PCs shut down fine, besides if it was a Vista issue its logical to presume everybody that has Vista would have the issue but the fact is they don't.
