vista vs xp

K, I'm buying a new laptop a toshiba with
Intel® Celeron® M processor 520 with 533MHz frontside bus, 1MB L2 cache and 1.6GHz processor speed
512MB DDR2 SDRAM for multitasking power, expandable to 2GB (planning on upgrading)
80 gig hd
Is vista good, or should I stay with xp since it is reliable and has spyware and such for it already.

Just stick with XP on that system. It wouldn't be worth the move to VIsta on that system, particularly on a laptop where drivers may not be readily available for the switch. Also, the Celeron just makes it not really worth it.

Unless you are buying it with 2 gigs of ram, sitck with xp. Vista will run like a dog with less 1 meg for home or 2 for the others.

That's assuming you can buy it both ways. If it's coming with Vista stick with that and upgrade the memory. If it's coming with xp don't upgrade to vista ever....

they had thst nice toshiba for 399.00 after rebates at office depot, id get that never buy a celeron

I'd just leave whatever is installed then. Less of a hassle. You can always turn down the visual settings of Vista to let it run smoother.

I am running Vista Home Premium om my Compaq V5305WM with the 2.0GHz Sempron, ATI Radeon Xpress X200 128MB of shared VRAM and 2 GB of PC 2700 RAM.

It is not the fastest setup around, but all is working fine, and that includes the Aero feature.

Stick with Vista... especially since you're buying extra RAM anyway.

Vista rules - XP drools! 😀

If it comes with Vista, stick with Vista. I have a new laptop with Vista, and an older one with XP Pro. The XP Pro one has started growing cobwebs on the case.

I know you won't believe this, but I managed to totally circumvent XP!

Oh, sure, I've used XP at work - installed it on friend's computers, et cetera - but I never did like it!

I'm running W2K (and some Slackware & Win98SE) machines on my LAN and don't plan to switch any time soon... W2K rocks!

To my way of thinking, XP is nothing more than W2K with a Tinky Winky Teletubbies interface. Vista, on the other hand, is a whole new thing!

Personally, I see Vista taking over as ppl wise up - W2K lingering in the corporate world - and XP going nowhere... 😀

It has already gone "where no one has gone before" for 6 strong years. And it still rules in gaming.

I wish all the new OS' could repeat the XP success, even if it is only the W2K with a bit of "eye candy".

But the future undoubtedly belongs to Vista and its successors, in 64-bit versions.

Sorry! I create my own reality!

I don't need Bill Gates help, or your phony games... 😀
