I read it earlier, looking good for Vista and AMD drivers.

Wonder how fast it'll be in a few years time .

I use Vista x64, this article kinda makes me want to go to x86, though the performance difference is so low, I do not know if it matters. Plus over time, I think x64 drivers should perform just as well if not better (because over time there will be 64bit games, like Crysis which is *supposed* to be 15% faster because of the type of math involved).

In anycase, I think if you have ATI, and do not plaly Opengl games much, Vista is an a-ok gaming OS.

Suprisingly good performance for such an early driver. Of course according to that article OpenGL performance is sorely lacking.

The Vista plumbing must be vastly different to allow for a 15% gain.. honestly it sounds a bit too good to be true. Hopefully it is though. :D

Comparing 32bit with a 64bit Vista and a game with 64bit optimised code, 15% sounds possible. Think it is streaching it a bit too far though but somewhere between 10-15% should be doable.

Check firingsquad, 1950xtx gets a 15%(+) boost in Vista than in XP in BF2142 at 1280x1024 2x/4x AA

AMD/ATi has been pretty good with their display drivers for Vista betas, looks like it's paying off.

I'll be picking up Vista sometime shortly.

Seems pretty much the same performance overall - some games faster, some slower, most the same. A good competent effort by the team to claw back performance that had been lost in early versions of Vista drivers.

Pretty decent job since some games have a performance gain...while most remain the same. I wonder why the X1950XTX gains more than the X1950pro. GDDR4 maybe?

Maybe they made some optimizations to the ring bus that gave gains on 512MB cards. Dunno. It wouldn't explain why the X1650XT also gets gains.
