Vista video corruption

I'm running Vista Business 32-bit with a Geforce 7900GT 256mb card. I'm running the latest Nvidia drivers. I'm aware of the Vista hibernation bug, and my machine is no exception. I get the green or blue "white noise" effect upon wakeup. Fine, I disabled hibernation, no problem. Unfortunately, I also often get this identical effect if I should somehow alt-tab out of a 3D game, or if one of my video editing programs like TMPGenc Plus or TMP DVD Author 3 opens a video file for processing. There's no way back to the desktop, I have to reset the machine to get back.

This is driving me crazy, I do a lot of video editing and conversion, and I'm having to retain my WinXP boot configuration to ensure I can reliably get some things done.

Anyone have a solution or fix for this problem?

thanks

no one has any ideas, or am I asking something that has already been answered elsewhere? I did do a search on this before I posted, and found nothing specifically addressing this issue.

I wish I had an answer, but I'm in the same boat as you. Using Vista Home Premium 32-bit with XFX 7900 GT card. It got better when I disabled hibernation, but Vista doesn't like hardly any of my games unless I fiddle around with compatibility settings. It looks like Vista is dumping me into a video mode that my monitor won't support. I've gone back to XP until this mess is fixed.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

I can't offer any help, but I can tell you that you're not alone. The common denominator (other than Vista) seems to be a 7900GT, which I also use.

I haven't had this exact problem, but every single webcam I tried using with vista gives video corruption in the preview. It looks like a scrambled picture on cable TV, the green mess. So I gave up with vista for now, I love it but I need things to work. The webcam says Vista compatable too. It's gotta be a driver conflict somewhere.

Interestingly, I have a webcam, a Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000, and it works flawlessly on Vista for me. No problems in either the preview or in Skype. But the corruption problem I mentioned appear exactly as you say, just during the times I indicated above. At least I know I'm not alone, and that it seems to be specific to the 7900GT. I'll do some more nosing about via Google.

thank you all for your input.

I've heard that having Nero installed causes webcams to stop working. I refuse to remove nero so I decided just go back to xp. I have no clue why nero would kill webcams, but that's what I've heard.

I happen to think it's an issue with drivers, probably ATI drivers are bad for the webcam software and Nvidia drivers are bad for whatever issue you experienced.

I'm also running Nero, latest Vista-compatible version, and have no issues with the webcam. Although, I did have to try a couple of different driver packages for it to work, if I recall. The ones I got from the Logitech site didn't work out, I had to find another file via google for my webcam. Good luck.
