Vista Very Slow File Transfers

I just installed Vista Ultimate x64 (SP1) and now I'm trying to copy music/photos from another SATA storage drive onto my OS drive. However, the copy transfer speeds are about 500kb/s...that's insanely slow. I'm using TeraCopy to copy the files from one HDD to the other.

What could be the problem? How can I fix this? Thanks.

Are you copying over a network?

AVG Free? I had trouble with file transfers when it was installed.
