Vista Upgrade

Hi there,

I bought an HP a while back that comes witha free "upgrade" to Vista. I've hated the crippled HP motherboard since I got it and want to replace it. I have heard that the OS is linked to the motherboard though. Since I have a Vista upgrade on its way, can I go get a new MB and clean install Vista with it in the system?

Thanks!

Hmm, ok. I have called them in the past. Perhaps what I'll do is give them a shout when I recieve the copy in the mail and ask them what to do. Maybe they will let me use it with a new MB.

I was wondering the same thing since I bought a laptop that had the Vista upgrade for it, too. Sold the laptop a few months ago....the Vista upgrade arrived three days ago.

Surprisingly, it installed on an Intel BX2 motherboard, E4300 cpu, 2GB Buffalo DDR@ RAM....in essence, not a darned piece of HP anywhere.

While the disc was branded HP on the front, it installed smooth as butter with no problems.....and it wasn't an upgrade either, it was a full install disc.

So, I wouldn't worry about it. You should get the same thing I got.

It's even got the "Upgrade Anytime" feature enabled so I can purchase the upgrade to Ultimate cheaply.
