Vista upgrade version to 64bit?

Is there a non-ultimate Vista upgrade version on sale that would take me to Vista 64? Currently using a non-OEM version of Windows 2000 Pro, so keeping the portability would be nice. I understand you can send in for a 64 bit disc, but I really have no use for Vista 32 and would prefer to avoid the hassle/expense.

no, you can't install 64 bit Windows OS from a 32-bit one, which is requisite for upgrade... you have to install it from CD boot.

I upgraded to vista ultimate 64-bit from windows 2000. Don't know about other vista versions...

Not in place, 64 bit install requires a clean install.

How about this scenario...

I've got the 64 bit version of Windows XP and the 32 bit upgrade to Vista - with the 64 bit version of XP currently installed on my system.

The question is.... if I want to install the a 64 bit version of Vista which version do I need to get?

Since I have the 32 bit 'upgrade' version of Vista... can I just get the 64 bit Vista 'upgrade' CD and install it over Windows XP 64 - assuming it will ask for the Vista 32 bit upgrade CD at some point... ?

Or - will I have to get the full version of Vista 64 ?

The 64-bit ugprade disc will likely work but I don't know if you can legally get one without buying another upgrade license.

To clarify: I have no interest in an install in place, it's just that the upgrade license is cheaper.

Question is, will they just sell me a regular 64 bit copy? Guess not.
